CBT Therapist & Occupational Therapist
Karen is a Cognitive Behavioural and Occupational Therapist who specialises in working with adults and young people. With many years of experience in various mental health settings, Karen has worked in both the NHS and private healthcare with individuals of varying ages and difficulties. Whilst using evidence-based therapeutic interventions, Karen hopes to support individuals to fulfil their personalised therapy goals by creating a compassionate, warm, and supportive environment.
Throughout Karen’s career to date, she has gained experience working with individuals who are experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and depression alongside presentations of severe and enduring mental health difficulties such as bipolar disorder, personality disorder, eating disorders, psychosis, and complex trauma.
Karen works at Umid alongside her main role at The Priory Hospital in Southampton, where she works as part of a specialist multidisciplinary team delivering individual and group psychological therapies in a specialist eating disorder unit and two acute mental health wards.
Training and Qualifications
Karen studied Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at the University of Southampton. Upon graduating, she worked as a CBT Therapist in her local Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) team, where she completed comprehensive psychological assessments and delivered individual and group CBT to treat anxiety disorders and low mood. Before this, Karen worked as an Occupational Therapist in a specialist forensic mental health unit.
Karen is fully accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and is registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professionals Council) as an Occupational Therapist.
