Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Oliver White is an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with specialist expertise in child and adolescent mental health, ADHD, autism and neurodevelopmental conditions, safeguarding, complex risk assessment, and medico-legal psychiatric opinion.
He is dual accredited in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry and is listed on the General Medical Council Specialist Register in both specialties. He is also approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act and as an Approved Clinician.
Dr White provides careful, evidence-based psychiatric assessment and treatment for children, young people and adults. His clinical approach is informed by extensive NHS experience across community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), general and secure adolescent inpatient psychiatry, Community Forensic CAMHS, safeguarding services, and complex multidisciplinary and multiagency networks.
His approach is thoughtful, balanced and practical, with an emphasis on clear formulation, proportionate recommendations, and understanding the needs of the young person within the context of their family, education and wider professional network.
Training and Qualifications
Dr White studied medicine at the University of Nottingham, where he completed his BMBS and BMedSci (Hons). He undertook core psychiatric training in Nottingham before completing higher specialist training in both Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry within the Oxford Deanery.
He became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2006 and was entered onto the GMC Specialist Register in both Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry in 2011.
He is approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act and is an Approved Clinician.
Since 2012, Dr White has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist across large NHS Foundation Trusts. His consultant experience includes Community Forensic CAMHS, secure adolescent inpatient psychiatry, general adolescent inpatient psychiatry, safeguarding leadership, and complex multiagency work involving young people and their families.
Dr White currently works as a Consultant Psychiatrist within Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. He is also Clinical Lead for the South West (North) Community Forensic CAMHS service, where his work focuses on young people with complex mental health, neurodevelopmental, safeguarding and risk-related needs.

Approach to Assessment
Dr White is experienced in assessing young people whose difficulties arise from an interaction between psychiatric, developmental, family, educational and social factors.
His assessments aim to understand the young person in context rather than considering symptoms in isolation. Depending on the circumstances, this may include consideration of:

Where appropriate, Dr White can also provide psychiatric opinion in relation to educational needs, examination adjustments, university support, safeguarding concerns, and complex multidisciplinary planning.
Risk Assessment and Safeguarding
Dr White has extensive experience in the assessment and management of complex risk in children and adolescents, including self-harm, suicidal behaviour, vulnerability, safeguarding concerns and risk to others.
He is trained in structured professional judgement approaches to risk assessment and has worked extensively within forensic, secure and safeguarding settings.
His approach to risk assessment considers not only the presence of individual risk factors, but also the young person's developmental stage, circumstances, strengths, protective factors, family and professional support, and the ways in which risk may change over time.
He regularly provides teaching and training on adolescent mental health, risk assessment, risk management, safeguarding and the Mental Health Act.
Medico-Legal and Professional Opinion
Dr White provides specialist psychiatric opinion in cases involving complex child and adolescent mental health, neurodevelopmental, safeguarding and risk-related issues.
