UMID is based in a converted barn at Micheldever Station, a few miles north of Winchester. It does not look or feel like a clinic, and that is deliberate. Many of the people who come to us are children and young people who are anxious about the appointment before they arrive, and the building they walk into makes a difference to how the first half hour goes.
Arriving
Our entrance is on the side of the building opposite the car park, rather than the main door, and our sign is next to it. Ring the bell and one of the team will come and let you in. There is parking on site, and we are a five-minute walk from Micheldever Station.
The waiting area
A single light room with sofas and space to spread out, rather than a row of chairs against a wall. There is room for parents and brothers and sisters to wait comfortably while an appointment is going on.
Therapy and consulting rooms
Appointments take place in one of several rooms, chosen to suit who is coming and what the appointment is for. The room under the barn's original beams is set up for younger children, with floor space, soft seating and things to do while we talk.
