Our clinical team has written a set of guides for the people we assess and the families who support them. Each one explains a diagnosis in plain language and sets out practical strategies at home, at school and at work, what treatment involves, your rights, and where to find further help. They are free to download.
These guides are updated regularly. The copies on this page are always the most recent editions. If you were given a guide some time ago, please download the current one here. If you are a GP or another professional supporting someone we have assessed, you are welcome to download these guides and to share this page.

Asking your GP about ADHD shared care
If you are thinking about ADHD medication and hope that your GP practice might later share your care, you can use this template letter to ask the practice for its view before treatment starts. Our ADHD guides explain what shared care involves.
Support from UMID after a diagnosis
Your feedback meeting will have covered the support options that may help. Some people find that the diagnosis and these guides are what they need. Others would like further help, now or later on.
We offer a range of services after a diagnosis, including psychiatric care, occupational therapy and psychological therapies. These are arranged separately from the assessment, and our current fees are on our fees page.
If you are not sure what would help, you can book a free 30-minute appointment with Sarah Wilson, our Clinical Director, to talk through your support needs and which options would best meet them. To arrange it, email umid@umid.co.uk.
If you need help urgently. UMID sees people by planned appointment and cannot provide crisis or emergency support. If a life is at risk, call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent mental health help, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, or call Samaritans free on 116 123.
